A Case Study on Student Self-Assessment in Mathematical Problem Solving ProcessStudent self-assessment is one of diverse ways for performance assessment. Self-assessment is the active process of monitoring one's own progress in learning and of examining one's own mathematical knowledge, progresses, and attitudes. Student self-assessment can be used to improve students' confidence in their own ability to do mathematics and allow them to become more independent in their learning of mathematics. Student self-assessment also offers detailed information on students' performance processes. Despite its rationales, it has been observed that student self-assessment is being rarely used by mathematics teachers. This article aims to explore the cases of student self-assessment. Since the two important components of self-assessment are self-awareness and self-evaluation, self-assessment and meta-cognition are closely related to each other. Thus, this case study uses student report in mathematical problem solving process using guidance material for problem solving. Three high school students were selected for the present research via informal interview. It is found that these cases support the rationales of student self-assessment.
