The Effects of Meditation on the Stress Reduction of Children's
This study is to improve physical and mental health of infants by reducing their daily stress through meditative activities. The object of the study was 60 young children at the age of 5 in full. After categorizing 30 young children out of total 60 as an experimental group and the remaining 30 young children as a controlling group, we applied two times of meditative activities per week to the young children of the experimental group for ten weeks. The questionnaire designed originally by Parfenoff and Jose colleagues to measure young children' daily stress, which had been translated by Lee, Jung-Eun in 1992, and modified and complemented again by Song, Sung-Sook in 2001 together with 3 other early childhood education experts, was used for this study.In order to measure the effect of the program applied in the study, t-verification for independent samples was executed, and the hypothesis was tested in the statistical significant level of 0.05. For statistical process, SPSS 10.0 program for Window was used.The summarized conclusions of the study are as follows.Firstly, the infants of the experimental group, to whom meditative activities had been applied, showed a significant difference in the level of stress reduction, compared with the young children of the controlling group.Secondly, with regard to the effect of meditative activities on stress reduction, no significant difference was made by the sex difference of the young children of the experimental group.
