A Study on the Leadership of Toegye Yi-Hwang : Reciprocal Advance of Knowledge-Conduct and Practical Application on the Principle
Nowadays some of the traditional relics are under examination, but the objects of examinations are just suitable for commercializing. It is not forreflection on western culture in the point of cultural pluralism but for efficient access to the glocal market. Of course, it is undoubtedly a result of capitalism, but the cultural pluralism base can be a bridge between traditional culture and modernized society.The leadership of Yi Hwang has special features of Neo-Confucianism byChu Hsi, but there is an universal aspect too, because of his universalphilosophy and it may be interpreted as an alternative idea for general leadership which has the lack of ethics and principle. The image of man inNeo-Confucianism does not correspond with that in capitalism, but practicalethics based on Golden Rule, and social practice in Golden Mean would notrun counter to the capitalistic system, the competition in good faith but be acomplement of social loss from selfish struggles in capitalism. It would be agood proposal to modern society as an efficiency maximization plan withoutsocial loss. Yi Hwang had applied his theory to his times and influenced deeply in political ideology or Neo-Confucain world view of 16th century Chosun Dynasty. Today so many Korean criticize the Moral Hazard of upper class in the point of Neo-Confucain moral view which made in 16th century.
