Artist Wonsook Kim and ceramic artist Aikyu Hahn incorporate self-biographical factors into their art work and have thus drawn the attention of viewers by expressing the lives and voice of women through their free description and lines, as well as simplified form. This thesis compares and analyzes the similarities and divergences between the two artists, based on their work of 1980's until 2007. The chapter on femininity and natural image deals with themes such as transformation of women's bodies into Mother Earth, natural images of soil, water, fire and wind, and return to nature. The chapter on family conflict and happiness deals with maternity and women, women's stress from housework, tensions, joyous imaginations, and praise for love and sex. The chapter on mythical epic and new birth looks into and describes the work of the two artists, using Korean traditional folktales, pandora of Greek mythology and various biblical stories, to express giving up or laying down of rights, emptying oneself and then being reborn and refilled through salvation and blessings from God.Wonsook Kim does not fixate herself on external representation, and thus is able to focus more on fundamental characteristics of her object. She conveys her message to her viewers through simple and succinct descriptions, liveliness expressed in her use of single colours, as well as through her strong but deep sense of colour. Furthermore, her insight into life and her love and gratitude towards humans draw viewers into her work and make them listen to the stories she tells. On the other hand, Aikyu Hahn's work expresses isolation, conflict and resistance that seams out of inequality and silence forced on women. It also strongly expresses reality of women's lives, and bias and prejudice of society. Her honest expression emanating from real everyday working life constitutes her uniqueness as well as being the reason why her work is attractive and earns sympathy.
