Physical Education Teacher' Concept of Applied New Sports
The purpose of this study was to understand and the experiences and recognition of physical education teachers progressing new sports based physical education and offer them wide data for the use of new sports in physical education class. Four physical education teachers, practicing new sports based physical education, were selected as the participants in this study. The conclusion was drawn out through qualitative case studies. Initially, the new sports were introduced into the physical education classes due to their need of new content based teaching. There was difficulty in the process of introducing it including conflict with administrators, their colleagues, and in the procuring of tools and materials. The new activities were enjoyed by the students and produced an increase in enrollment. The new sports were determined to be as valuable as the existing modern sports in educational value. It was found to be suitable for the 7th curriculum revision although there are some differences in the suitability for 5 sectors including 'physical activity value centered' health, challenge, competition, expression, and spare time. The physical education teachers felt the students studying the knowledge to be the future physical educators in the department of physical education. As such they felt it necessary for them to study the new sports to prepare for future progression.
