Impacts of Extended Transformational Leadership on Organizational Commitment and Creative Behaviors of Subordinates

    This research analyzes the relations of extended transformational leadership with organizational commitment and creative behaviors of subordinate leaders by using the samples of military organization on the assumption that transformational leadership comprises of four elements of charisma, dividualized consideration, intellectual stimulation, and change-orientation of leader. Major findings in this research are as follows. First, extended transformational leadership has more positive relations with organizational commitment and creative behaviors of subordinate leaders than transformational leadership. Second, change-orientation of leader has more positive relations with organizational commitment of subordinate leaders than the other three elements of transformational leadership. In addition, change-orientation of leader shows significantly positive relations with creative behaviors of subordinate leaders. The implications of this study are as follows. First, the empirical results verify and compare the relationships between the elements of extended transformational leadership and organizational outcomes. Second, the empirical results show that not only is change-orientation of leader an independent factor of transformational leadership apart from the other three elements of transformational leadership, but also has significantly positive relations with organizational commitment and creative behaviors of subordinate leaders. The results of this research show that extending transformational leadership by including change-orientation of leader can increase the effectiveness of transformational leadership.
