An Analysis of the Effects of Learning Styles and Media Environments on the Non-Real-Time Online Discussion by Pre-service Teachers
The purpose of this study is to analyze the effects of learning styles and media environments on the non-real-time online discussion by pre-service teachers. For this purpose, 61 pre-service teachers were divided into 2 groups: the facebook group and the online board group. Also, a learning styles survey was administered to find out their learning styles. The results of the study indicated that the facebook group produced more discussion messages than the online board group. According to learning styles, those belonging to sensing learners produced more discussion messages than those belonging to intuitive learners. It was also found that in terms of social and interactive dimensions, the facebook group produced more messages while in terms of the cognitive dimension, the online board group produced more messages. Besides, it was found that in terms of the metacognitive dimension, those belonging to global learners produced more messages on facebook while those belonging to sequential learners produced more messages on the online discussion board.
