Research on the Impact of Servant Leadership on Organizational Effectiveness - Focused on Marines Corps -
With recent series of military incidents, extra attention is focused on the leadership of noncommissioned officers, which are the middle managers. Accordingly, the purpose of study is to investigate the relationship between noncommissioned officers' servant leadership and military organizational effectiveness (job satisfaction, organizational commitment) and mediating effect of leader trust. Study sample was among the noncommissioned officers and soldiers, excluding commissioned officers, of Marines located in Gyeonggi-do, and total 529 questionnaires were analyzed. The results are as follows. First, among the sub-variables of servant leadership, growth support and vision presentation showed positive effect. On the other hand, stewardship and community formation did not. Second, among the sub-variables of servant leadership, stewardship, growth support, and vision presentation showed positive effect. Third, leader trust played a mediating role in organizational effectiveness. This study is significant in that it established the relationship between noncommissioned officer's servant leadership and organizational effectiveness (job satisfaction, organizational commitment), and is furthermore significant that it revealed the necessity of servant-type middle managers in military organizations by studying the role of leader trust.
