Occurrence of Insect Pests and Insecticidal Effects of Organic Agricultural Materials (OAM) against Major Pests in Organic Tea (Camellia sinesis L. O. Kntze) Fields
This study was conducted to monitor the major pests occurring in organic tea fields and evaluate eco-friendly insecticidal agricultural materials. Eleven species of insect pests were identified over 2 year study period (2015-2016) in Boseong. Tetranychus kanzawai, Eriophyes chibaensis, Calacarus carinatus and Polyphagotarsonemus latus showed the highest peaks from April to June and after late-August. Therefore, management tactics are required in early-April and late-August. Toxoptera aurantii showed the highest peak in early-June and early-September. The major pests among them were Apolygus spinolae (Meyer-Dur) and Caloptilia theivora. High densities of A. spinolae and C. theivora were observed in May and in October, respectively. Moreover, the rates of leaf damage were 28.4% and 10.4%, respectively. The seasonal occurrence of C. theivora was monitored by using a sex pheromone trap, which revealed that C. theivora occurred six times a year from mid-April to mid-December. The peak occurrence of C. theivora was recorded in late September. The controlling effects of OAM containing sophora, neem, a mixture of sophora and neem against four pests (Tetranychus kanzawai, Eriophyes chibaensis, Calacarus carinatus, and Toxoptera aurantii) were more than 94%.
