Revisited the relationship between folklore and mass media
This paper aims to rethink the relationship between mass media and folklore as the subject of folkloristics. We live in a modern world where has been infiltrated into deeply and as a result configured newly by media. But there is only a few folklore researches focused on the problems of media, especially the relationship between folklore and media yet. Even most of them are just focusing on the several programs from specific medias fragmentarily. This may be because, on the one hand, the perspective that folklore and media are opposed, is still dominant, on the other hand, the logics and methodologies to analyse the media in folkloristics are not matured enough. But given the enormous influence of the media to modern societies, without paying attention to the media and the problems arised from it, there is a limit to grasp fully the existent aspects of folklore today. Therefore, in this paper I examine the existing arguments dealing with the relationship between folklore and the mass media, and how the folklore researchers of today understand the relationship between them. And based on the questions from the examinations, I try to rethink the relationship between them. Among those questions, the questions are also included that I have encountered in the course of fieldwork. In this paper I try to look for clues to the answer, especially with reference to Baudrillard's simulations theory.
