The purpose of this study was to observe whether there was an educational inequality according to a home background of students, whether the academic achievement in the school was influenced by the experience of a private education, and whether the opportunity to get a good social position was influenced by the socio-economic status of the their parents via the private education. In this study, the students' school records, private education experiences and home backgrounds were investigated and analyzed by chi-square analysis with "Statistical Program for Social Science(SPSS)". The 312 students who are studying in academic high schools in Masan and Changwon area were randomly sampled and participated in this study. Findings of this study were as the followings. First, the average education level of their parents was high school graduate. As for the salary of their fathers, the group of "from 1,010,000 to 2,000,000 won" showed the most frequency. As for the jobs of their fathers, the old middle class showed the most frequency. But, there was no one in high class. Second, it was found that 290 students had experience of private education, and a large number of them studied for over 2 years, but less than 4 years. Private learning institute was the most popular private education type. There were many students who studies in a private institution at a high ratio, and their average expenses for private education was 140,000 won per month. Third, many of them believed that the private education is helpful to go on a better university, so they thought it is necessary and keep doing it. Forth, as their parents were in higher positions, they spent more money on their children's private education. The private education was affected by their family backgrounds because students in a high class preferred to study with a tutor, but students in a lower class than them tended to study in a private learning institution. Therefore, it can be said that the family's socio-economic backgrounds have influences on the current private education type. Fifth, it was found that current private education type, experience and expense had more effects on their academic score rather than past private education. Sixth, it was found that their family backgrounds such as the socio-economic status of their parents influenced on the private education, and the expense of it influenced on their academic achievements.
