The periodic classification in economic history is very important so as to acknowledge the expansion or turn of the economic history and understand the periodic specification. It has been vividly discussed from the dawn of Korean modern history. In the earlier time, the periodic classification by the dynasty was in general, but it was hard to bring out the stages and moments of historic development because the classifying method by the dynasty did not have any meaningful contents. The systematic periodic classification began with the applying the stages of historic development which was set up by K. Marx. However, it was not exactly classified because of its ambiguous contents and difficulty. Of course, the method and criterion to classify the periodic history might be differently developed according to the changes of economic development and environment. Thus, it is important and valuable to be re-classified the periodic classification in Korean economic history in the dawn of the 21st century. The purpose of this study is to discover the systematic inconsistency of the historic and modern society and to overcome its discrepancy through the systematizaton of the past history under the uniformity of method. Also, it may ascertain the historic validity so that its classification may be rational. The key contents of this study is the classifying the criteria and standards for the periodic time of pre-modern and modern ages. In the second chapter, the various controversies on the periodic classification had mentioned and discussed, and finally come up with the standard of such discussion. In the third chapter, the problems of the periodic classification set against each other and clarified the standard of the time for the classification. The most important problems found in this study with regard to the periodic classification were that it was classified by the tripartite method according to the time perspectives. In other words, the most studies on the periodic classification have been released the inconsistency because the classification was carried out conveniently and instrumentally and come to a conclusion of the one of dynasty. The standard of the periodic classification on the pre-modern history has to be done by the intrinsic attribute of human-beings who have been getting along the society. Without such standardization of classification, the so-called the intrinsic attribute method, the conclusion of such studies would result in another problem in the historic classification. The sufficiency of such endeavor to classify by the intrinsic attribute method remained the limits of this study. That is, the periodic classification of Korean economic history in the pre-modern ages might be performed by the intrinsic ethics, zorals and happiness of human-beings at that time period. If an opportunity to study this theme would be given, such limits have been overcome. Furthermore, it is expected that the intrinsic attribute method would be applied in next study.
