A study on the effluent rate and reaction coefficient by water quality model in river (apllication to Sap Kyo Watershed)

    In this study, the variation of water quality at a certain reach of Sap Kyo River was studied by QUAL2E model. This model is used very often to redict the variation of water quality according to discharge and distance. At first the data of pollutant and statistics were used to obtain source pollutants and effluent loads. The runoff discharge of this river by the hydrological data used the existing data of reference and kagiyama run off formula The main purpose of this study is to evaluate the applicability of QUAL2E model in Sap Kyo River by comparing the simulated results and the measured data. And another object is to obtain the effluent ratio and reaction coefficient for Sap Kyo Watershed. The result of simulation was very satisfactory since observed water quality were agreed well to the simulated ones. QUAL2E model will be useful tool for the evaluation of water quality in river of rural watershed. As a result of this study, the water quality concentration was decreased as the discharge incerase this concentration was also slowly decreased as it flows from upstream to downstream. When the effluent ratio of Sap Kyo Watershed was 10% for BOD, 20% for T-N and 10.5% for T-P, simulated results were agreed well to the measured data. DO, BOD, T-N and T-P concentration depend on the inflow and lateral dicharges. During drought flow season(May), the variations of BOD and DO concentration were move sensitive and rapidly varied tnan that of flood flow season(August). The variation of T-N and T-P concentration depending on the inflow discharge were less sensitive than that of DO and BOD. The important used reaciton coefficient for Sap Kyp River is as follows : K₁ = 0.2, K₂ = 1.5, K₃ = 0.0, B₁ = 1.0, B₂ = 0.15, B₃ = 0.2, B₄ = 0.2. It is necessary to collect more measured data (haydraulic, hydrology, water quality) for the exact prediction of water quality. It take lots of cost and endeavor to abtain the effluent ratio and reaction coefficient of pollutants in river. It is important to collect good data for a long time for the integrated water quality management.
