According to Adelman's, there are 5 differences between modern and premodern sports - organization, rules, competition, role differenciation, public information, statics and records. Korea shows unique situation that tradition and modernity coexist thanks to much shorter period in modernization process than Western countries. That brought about sudden changes in many fields as well as in the field of sports. Different from other modern sports which largely was imported, "Silum", the Korean traditional game have suffered whole change from folk game to modern sports without importing anything. Silum was originally carried out as the fighting as the means of existence to survive the fight with wild beats and other tribes of the martial arts for self-defense. It has gradually developed into the military entertainment with the intellectual, emotional, social development of human beings. In the long run, it has devolped into one sports events complying with the rationalized rule of the game. The Korean Silum Association is the athletic organization participating in the Korea Amateur Sports Association, has a close relationship to sports organizations, at home and abroad, and sponsors all kinds of Competitions, with its bureaucratization and organization. Silum has a tendency to be bransformed to quantify and measure all the athletic skills or techniques of Sirum. That the athletic player of Silum is enabled to compete with each other beyond time and space as breaking a record is combined with quantification and his desire for becoming more excellent, is consistent with the characteristic of modern sports.
