    The purpose of this study is to explore the practical use of chant activities for English education in the elementary school with the special focus on fourth graders. Through the experiment on various chant activities with elementary school children, we can draw a conclusion that with chant activities we get significant teaching effect on children in their learning : they help children increase their motivation and improve their achievement. In this experiment four methods are used : 91) dialogue and chant, (2) chant and T.P.R, (3) story telling and chant and 94) chant and games. We choose 60 fourth graders from an elementary school in Pyongtayk area and divide them into two groups. Two different methods are applied for each group. The first group is provided with inputs through the regular Natural Approach. The second group is provided with inputs through chant activities as well as the regular Natural Approach. The result of the experiment shows that the subjects in the second group have made more progress than the other group in their achievement, motivation, and study attitude. Thus, in order to develop their communicative competence, it is necessary to use other methods than the regular methods in the Natural Approach in teaching English to elementary school children. We suggest that the practical use of various chant activities is one such method providing interesting and meaningful inputs for the children.
