The traditional method assumes that shear distribution remains uniform, and that the longitudinal strains will vary linearly over the depth of the beam. For members such as the deep beams and pile caps, these assumption are not valid because of non-linear strain distribution. It is important to develop some model for predicting the behavior of deep beam before actual design, because it would give fundamental insight required for rational design. So the strut-and-tie modelling may provide a convenient way of approximating load paths and force effects in the structures. In this study, the strut-and-tie model is applied in deep beam, general flexure member and prestressed concrete anchorage zone. When the span/depth ratio is increased, the widths and inclined angles of struts are decreased but the amount of tension reinforcement is increased. We may confirm that the strut-and-tie model is useful and rational design method for disturbed zone.
