An implementation of a CAI progran for learning of the vocabulary in life of mentally retarded children

This study was aimed to verify the effectiveness through an implementation and application of CAI program, to maximize in concentration of attention, the effect of interaction, enhancement of standards of accomplishment, and guiding active learning through endowing interests which are emphasized in verbal education for mentally retarded children. The Cocktail 98 was used as a composition tool for CAI program. The program was consist of the vocabulary in life and was applied during 15 hours through 5 weeks to mentally retarded 3 children. The result of reading(I) and writing test were analyzed by pre-post test and word recognition and discrimination were analyzed by pre and post test with a middle test of 2 times. The analysis of the results were percentage according to ages. The conclusions of this study are as follows: 1. In reading ability, it showed the effects of rise about 0.2~0.4 ages and showed an enhancement of 38~54% in word recognition. 2. In writing ability, it showed the effects of rise about 0.1~0.3 ages and showed an enhancement of 32~50% in word discrimination. Besides, there's no self confidence and learning desire at first of this study but participated actively in learning with interests from the middle of this experiment. According to this study, 'interesting word learning' enhanced the standards of accomplishment and led the active learning through motivation and endowment in interests. Through this study, it showed that the CAI program, 'interesting word learning' which is consist of vocabulary in life served in various respects as a verbal education for mentally retarded children.
