- 원문 URL
The aim of elementary school English education is to improve basic communication skills. Communication skills are expected to be improved when learners participate in their study actively and positively. It is important for learners to participate not only in learning but also in evaluation of their achievement, attitude and effort in order to examine and prepare themselves in their study for improvement. The purpose of this study is to provide a way to improve the learners' achievement and attitude through such observational evaluations by learners as self-evaluation and peer evaluation. 3 groups of 6th graders of an elementary school in Pyongtaek city are chosen for the experiment for 16 weeks. To the first group only the evaluation by the teacher is applied. Evaluation by the teacher and learners themselves are applied to the second group(experimental class 2). The third group(experimental class 2) has all three evaluations, evaluation by the teacher, the learner himself and classmates. The results of this study are as follow: First, the evaluation by the learners themselves results in their improvement of English listening, speaking and reading. Second, the evaluation by the learners themselves makes a contribution to the improvement of their attitude to learning. Third, a good number of learners respond affirmatively to the evaluation done by themselves and their classmates, and lead themselves into the better management of learning. In conclusion, through the experiment, it is proved that the participation of the students in the evaluation of their learning achievement leads them to the improvement in many departments for learning, that is, achievement, attitude, interest and so on. Thus, the continuous study on the development of various evaluations in which learners are involved is required and encouraged in the field of elementary school English education.
