    This study is to discover the differences between the normal family children and the deficient family children in terms of their achievement motivations and school adaptations with the subjects of 396 elementary school students in the 5th and 6th grades. Being based on analyzing questionnaire results about children's achievement motivations and school adaptations, this study has the goal to compare and analyze the differences between those two kinds of children in the targeted terms of their achievement motivations and school adaptations. And another goal is to find out the influences of family deficiency on children's achievement motivations and school adaptations, which is derived from the analysis of the children' achievement motivations and school adaptations according to the types of family deficiency. With the goals like these, this study also intends to gain some educational implications. The followings are the questions to be dealt with in this study. First, is there any difference between the normal family children and the deficient family children in respect of their achievement motivations? Second, is there any difference between the normal family children and the deficient family children in respect of their school adaptations? Third, is there any difference in children' achievement motivations according to the types of the family deficiency in case of the deficient family children? Fourth, is there any difference in children' school adaptations according to the types of the family deficiency in case of the deficient family children? For solving the above questions, a questionnaire was drawn up with proper items for this study based on the researches into the relevant documents and former studies. A preliminary test was done with the provisional questionnaire to 50 students in the 6th grade of elementary schools located in ChangWon and JinHae cities. It was then revised to be better conformed to the reality conditions and finally a completed questionnaire about children' achievement motivations and school adaptations was prepared through the test of its content validity with the help of the professor in charge. The field of achievement motivation was divided into 2 sub-fields in 21 items all and the field of school adaptation was divided into 6 sub-fields in 29 items all. As for the study method, the statistics program of SPSS Ver 10.0 was utilized to analyze the outcomes. T-test was used to find out the differences according to the family types in terms of their achievement motivations and school adaptations. And ANOVA was applied for discovering the differences according to the types of the family deficiency in case of the deficient family children in terms of their achievement motivations and school adaptations.
