    The purposes of this study are to confirm the effect of the melancholy and anxiety level which are the low ranges of emotion by making middle school students perform breath-counting meditation and to make a search for the application of breath-counting meditation for schooling. In order to get the purposes 13 male and 17 female students who are in the 2nd grade, middle school were taken part for 7 weeks in this study. The investigations have been made 30 times, 6 times a week, 20 minutes each time. In the control group, no action was taken and only the tests were taken before and after the study. Before and after this study the tests were taken of the control group and the experimental group by MAACL in order to inspect the effect of breath-counting meditation. The effect was measured by the ANOCOVA method based on 2×2 factorial design. The result of this study can be summarized as follows: First, breath-counting meditation made a meaningful effect in decreasing the melancholy level of middle school students. Second, breath-counting meditation made a meaningful effect in decreasing the anxiety level of middle school students. In this study, there was a limitation in measuring the emotional change of the experimental students through the objective analysis by means of the score result of the questionnaire. But it seems that the research and development of the meditation guidance method are required so as to guide the life and morality of the students on the basis of the this study. It is suggested that the meditation method capable of guiding the students easily and effectively, the material of meditation guidance method, and the structured meditation program should be developed for the purpose of the education of special ability and aptitude or the activation of the group activity by the teacher of the meditation guidance at school
