Teaching Methods on Discrete Mathematics by using the History of Mathematics

In today's mathematics class, it makes students less interested in mathematics for teacher to teach just a complete knowledge as a result from many studies of mathematics deductively. As an alternative of this, in this thesis I introduced a history of mathematics in improving a teaching-learning method. And I recognized the need of studying a discrete mathematics that is a deep-selective subject in the 7th mathematics education curriculum centered on students' autonomy and selection. In this thesis, therefore, I study a teaching-learning method by the texts including a history of mathematics based on historically generated principles. In chapter 2, I investigate the historically generated principles as a pedagogical principles to get over the formalistic shortage, the necessity of a discrete mathematics in the 7th mathematics education curriculum, and the basic concept and the nature of a discrete mathematics with a focus on the role of it in the history of mathematics. In chapter 3, we have a chance to expand our thoughts by searching for mathematical subjects, episodes and problems related with real studies using the history of mathematics like Selections and Arrangment, Graphs, Algorithm, and Optimum condition of Decision-making. That is, The transfer from usual thought to outward thought occurs naturally through the geometrical thought. Developing these materials aims at helping improve a teaching-learning method. In conclusion, with the history of mathematics, we can make students feel easy to mathematics and encourage them to have a confidence in mathematics by making them know mathematics right, motivating them, and showing the human aspect of mathematics. And I suggest that mathematics teachers should reconstruct the history of mathematics properly and develope materials for students in order to help students to have an interest in mathematics.
