(The) Aspect of Emotional Expression of Infant on the Squiggle-Drawing Game

This research put a purpose on making use of the Squiggle-Drawing game to examine the aspect of emotional expression of infants expressed in stories made by infants and using this result as the basic data necessary for the preparation of the leading plan of infants by parents or teachers. In order to achieve this purpose, Squiggle-Drawing game was practiced total 10 times once a week by 10 infants of five years old in nursery as a subject of learning. The qualitative research was practiced, utilizing the Squiggle-Drawing game to examine the aspect of the emotional expression expressed in stories made by infants, and the tendency of the aspect of the main emotional expression of infants, and analysing the types and the qualities of the aspect of the emotional expression expressed by infants. The summary of the whole result of this research is the following. The number of times of the negative emotional expressions are 100 times among 163 times. Among the negative expression, the emotional expressions are 31 times on fear, anxiety, and 40 times on hostility, envy, and 29 times on attack propensity. And the positive emotional expressions are 63 times, among which 23 times are on love, and 40 times on delight. This result reveals that infants express more negative expressions rather than positive expressions through stories. Such emotional expressions is expressed in relation to or through the intermediary of the object important to infants themselves. The important objects that appear mainly in stories made by infants include parents, me, brothers and sisters, friends, and external environments, and often the objects such as ghost and thief appear as a object of fear. In the emotional expressions of infants, the emotional expressions through the intermediary of parent especially prevail most. The fact that the emotional expressions about parent, the emotional objects important to infants contain many negative expressions suggests that the emotion of infants for their parents is negative. And infants are too often disposed to express their more purified negative emotion or express their positive emotion such as love or delight after they express repeatedly their emotion until their negative emotion can be fully through their stories. The above result concludes that Squiggle-Drawing game is useful to understand the aspect of infant emotion, and such result become the basic data important to understand the infant emotion of parents and teachers and provide a good rearing environment for infants.
