We have thought of linguistic performance and attached great importance to grammar and reading comprehension in English education so far. Since English has been more important as a means of international communication, we are confronted with limitations of English education. When we think about these problems, there is no doubt that English classes should be for improving communicative competence to express one's thoughts and feelings and to understand what they are saying. In this sense, teachers should develop teaching strategies and methods for communicative activities. This study tried to look into how communicative activities change high school students' interest and attitude toward English and also tried to clarify that various communicative activities can make them develop their communicative competence. The result of the study is as followings. First, communicative activities triggers students' motivation for English learning. Second, their interest in English learning increased. Third, their listening skills improved. Of course, it does not mean a big change of listening skills, but a four-months-long experiment contributed to students' improvement in English listening skills by gradually increasing the amount of target language input. Finally, various games and role plays helped students feel confident in English speaking. Students were encouraged to think that they could make conversation and make friends with foreigners when they had a chance to meet them so that they could try to speak in English without hesitation in class. After all, teacher's role is important in developing learners' communicative competence. Teachers should make their own teaching plans and choose their own teaching methods and techniques which are most suitable for them and make use of their abilities to the full. They also have, however, the same purpose to improve the learners' communicative competence. Therefore, not only must teachers be able to help learners activate mutual interaction, but they should also try to perform interaction with learners. And most importantly, the class activities should be various and performed on the premise that they occur in real situations, and give chances to the learners to use English as much as possible. Considering these points, teachers should try to create more various activities which are suitable for the learners.
