Synthesis of the Hydrogel and its characteristics of flame resistance

This Study is to investigate the synthesized hydrogel's flame resistance using Hydroxyethyl methacrylate, 4-styrene sulfonic acid sodium salt hydrate, N-(hydroxymethyl) acrylamide monomer with the addition of NaCl, MgCl_(2), Na_(2)CO_(3) as a flame-resist additive. The toxicity of PAAm and PAA was reported recently by many research works. As a consequence, the use of PAAm and PAA is limited by the government. For the reason, we try to prepare the hydrogel with 2-HEMA and N-MA which has no toxicity. The experiment compared the flame resistance, water absorbance rate of hydrogel made by copolymerizing with several monomers (Hydroxyethyl methacrylate, 4-styrene sulfonic acid sodium salt hydrate, N-(hydroxymethyl) acrylamide monomer)and flame-resist additives using DSC(differential scanning calorimeter), TGA(thermogravimetric analyzer) instruments. Monomer and synthetic polymer were characterized by changing Carbonyl peak in amide with FT-IR. Through the new synthetic methods, we could obtain hydrogels with the characteristics of better flame resistance and also see the effective synthesis methods depending on flame-resist additives such as NaCl, MgCl_(2), Na_(2)CO_(3). With the results of experiment, we provide the method of making hydrogel without toxicity and also, having better characteristics.
