    The purpose of this study is to examine and analyze the realities of vocational education in the high class of special school for the mentally retarded and present a plan of improvement. For this examination, I selected 66 special schools with high class for the mentally retarded over the country and asked 39 questions of the head teachers in charge of vocational education. The emphasis of this study is to analyze deeply the vocational education course formation, it's actual management, estimation, and improvement. The data was processed by SPSS program, and in some schools in Kyo˘ng Nam province, utilized interview data with principal, vice principal, head teacher and teacher after actual visit. The brief finding about the realities of vocational education were as follows: First, for the speciality and efficiency of vocational education in the high class of special school, we should intensify research study of teachers in charge of vocational education and appoint veteran teacher as a head teacher. Second, to settle early the national curriculum of the vocational education which get out of the hindrance field and meet the needs of the times and the science, we should make connection between industry and education for taking a job. through the reeducation and special research study of data processing, industrial design, electronic building and confectionery. Third, as having observed in the actual management of the vocational education course, the choice for the vocational subject and students placement must be practiced after an exact aptitude test and the education be centered on a practical and a drill through the cooperation and the consultation of the local relative administrative machinery. Forth we should make an objective, trusting standard for the evaluation of job education and after direction. After direction must be checked continually and supported by school manager, teacher, parents and industrial complex. Fifth, pressing tasks for improving job education are effort and investment in developing various jobs connected with industry, making job converting team and job education program. And in side of direction in taking a job, we should choose and educate the kind of occupation centering the actual practice after analyzing the kind needed in the local society. I propose the need of educational access connected with the spot through the consideration of the ability of the students and the development of various jobs as a simple labor, a cleaning substitution, an errand, a packing, a service, a gathering steel scraps, sales, reports and a medical treatment etc.
