(A) Study on the Effects of Low Excess Air Ratio for a Boiler Operation

According to the development of mechanical technology, the efforts for maximization of a boiler efficiency and maximization of environmental emission have been achieved continuously. It is needed in Korea to make more effort to save energy and secure environment because of the lack of energy resources and high density of population. THis paper is concerned that how much the low excess air ratio in a boiler influences energy saving, environmental emission (especially, No_(x)) and anti-corrosion in order to find reasonable operation methods in a boiler. For this study, the effects of low oxygen operation in a 18.6 MW boiler located in Ulsan city investigated by both of its experiments and simulation program on boiler performance and system modifications for NO_(x) control. As the result, energy saving can be expected about a humdred-thousand dollas per one year, especially NO_(x) emission can be reduced about 40% through excess air ratio variation, 27% by EGR system, about 43% by OAP firing for existing operation method.
