    This study is to examine the effect that laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse have on mentally retarded students' vocational skill and life attitudes. For this purpose it was conducted 100 minutes a session, five times a week totally 32 sessions with the subjects of six 1st grade mentally retarded students in a horticultural class of J special school. Laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse was made to be classified into vocational skill activities and life attitudes area to improve the subjects' vocational life ability. Vocational skill activities consisted of arrangement activity, management activity, harvesting activity and marketing activity, and vocational life attitudes were made up of self-management activity, participation activity and personal relations activity In the application of laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse, the goal of each activity process and the plan of activities were chosen out of consideration for students' disabilities degree, ability and the details of activities. The subject of activities and objectives were chosen to promote laborious work activities for gardening in a hothouse properly. According to students' disabilities degree, ability, interest and concern with subdividing the details of activities by each activity subject, the details were constituted and enforced through basic activities, supplementary activities and consolidatory activities for solution of activity tasks. For each subject participating in this program, the researcher drew up an appraisal table every session by performance process of laborious work process for gardening and each activity subject, and recorded accumulatively by cases about laborious work process for gardening in a hothouse and change of its result. To examine the effect that laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse have on subject students' vocational skill and attitudes after its application the researcher and the assistant gathered data through pretest, posttest, and maintenance test with using a vocational appraisal tool 'Work Activity' for an appraisal paper of vocational skill and life attitudes . The researcher's observation record details on activity processes and work performance processes by subjects were used for qualitative study data. The researcher and the assistant's pretest, posttest and maintenance test data on vocational skill and life attitudes were used for the result analysis on vocational skill and life attitudes through nonparametric test with SPSS 10.0 for windows and the results of the study were as follows. First, the results showed that laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse had a positive effect on mentally retarded students' vocational skill. Subjects mentally retarded students showed meaningful difference according to the test time of pretest, posttest, and maintenace test by the appraisal paper of vocational skill and life attitudes. That is, with preliminary period 60.50, after the fact period 71.89, maintenance period 70.61 after this program applied, the program had a positive effect on subjects mentally retarded students' vocational skill and the result was preserved continuously. Although there were differences according to a subject student the results showed that the program had a positive effect on general vocational skills as well as the progress of skills needed in laborious work for gardening in a hothouse. Second, the results showed that laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse had a positive effect on mentally retarded students' vocational life attitudes. Subjects mentally retarded students showed meaningful difference according to the test time of pretest, posttest, and maintenace test. That is, with preliminary period 65.83, after the fact period 76.56, maintenance period 75.00 after this program applied, the program had a positive effect on subjects mentally retarded students' vocational life attitudes and the result was preserved continuously. Although there were differences according to a subject student it was showed that the program had a positive effect on attitudes coping with vocational life efficiently as well as adaptation to social life. As stated above, the results from the study of the effect that laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse had on mentally retarded students' vocational skill and life attitudes were as follows. First, laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse has a positive effect on mentally retarded students' vocational skill. Second, laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse has a positive effect on mentally retarded students' vocational life attitudes. Therefore it is showed that laborious work program for gardening in a hothouse carried out in this study has improved mentally retarded students' vocational skill and life attitudes.
