The goal of this study is to examine to what extent children are aware of an effect which a father among parents, who are the home environmental factors which might affect development of their social skills, has on it and to figure out the relationship between fathers' degree of participation in home education and the development of children's social skills. To achieve the goal of this study, the following research problems were set up. Firstly, is there a difference in fathers' degree of participation in home education according to children's background variables? Secondly, is there a difference in the level of children's social skills development according to children's background variables? Thirdly, is there a difference in the level of children's social skills development according to father's degree of participation in home education? The subjects of research were 233 elementary school students in the 6th grade. Jeong-Hae Whang's questionnaires were used for father's degree of participation in home education and Kwi-Sook Shin's measurement tool(1992) was used for social skills test. SPSS 10.0 was used for data analysis. The results obtained from these research methods are as follows. Firstly, in terms of children's gender, a girl's father participated in home education more than a boy's father. There was not a difference in children's birth order, father's age and whether mother is employed or not. Secondly, in terms of children's birth order, the first child, an only son and a only daughter showed high development in their social skills. Father's age or child's gender had not any effect on the development of social skills, but children showed high social skills development when their mother was unemployed. Thirdly, there was high correlation between fathers' degree of participation in home education and development of their children's social skills. In other words, fathers' participation in home education raised the development of their children's social skills The results showed that fathers should positively participate in home education for desirable child-raising with an interest in their living as fathers' participation in home education produced the desirable result in the development of their children's social skills.
