(A) study on the Effectiveness of Low-NOx Combustion by using Bias Firing

In order to reduce NO_(x) emission from pulverized coal firing boilers, it is very important to know the NO_(x) formation and destruction characteristics under fuel rich condition. In this study it was made clear that Volatile-N released was accounted as a function of pyrolysis temperature and the rate of Char-N released corresponded to that of char conversion. Futhermore, Volatile-NO_(x) could be easily reduced in fuel rich condition for residence time corresponded to sufficient destruction of HCN. The advanced bias-combustion technology was developed by the above result. By the first applying this method to 500MW coal firing utility boiler in KOREA, we have been able to obtain low NO_(x) emission of less than 150ppm for imported bituminous coal with excellent boiler performance over 91% of effciency.
