    This paper discusses the development of diesel engine speed controller(intelligent digital governor) using DSP. Until today, mechanical governor or analog governor has slow response time and low reliability caused by aging characteristic. In this study, the problem is improved due to detect MPU signal using capture of DSP(high accuracy of input), digitalize analog component including PID controller(high reliability), and compensate Actuator's non-linearity. As a result, the characteristic of digital governor is follows. The rising time and falling time of digital governor is shorter than 0.5sec in regular load. And lower steady-state error is less than ±0.25% in regular load. As well as the digital governor is operated in wide range power(DC 7~40V) using step-down converter. And also the digital governor integrate engine control unit and engine protection unit due to process engine protection factor depended on MPU's signal using software.
