Development of Design Criteria on the Formation of Uniform Flow for Supply Device in Industrial Ventilation System

In this study, the design parameters of forming the uniform face velocities were sought by using computational fluid dynamics(CFD). The plenum type supply hood with perforated hood face was chosen for this study because this type of hood might be the most general hood to be considered. The possible influencing parameters for uniform flow were selected as 1) the perforated plate hole size, 2) the ratio of open face area to plenum cross-sectional area, 3) the hood face velocity, 4) the plenum depth and 5) the duct mean velocity. Mean face velocity of hood with various conditions was predicted by using commercially available CFD code, AIRPAK(Ver. 2.0). For numerical simulation, the standard k-ε turbulence model was applied for solving the flow filed in front of hoods. The result of using one-way ANOVA, significant parameters affecting the uniformity of hood face velocity were proved to be the hood face velocity, the opening ratio and the duct velocity while the others were insignificant. Subsequently, the effect of significant parameters was more closely tested to develope the design guideline for achieving the uniform flow condition.
