Dynamic Analysis of a Composite Spindle System

Development of high speed spindle is one of the most important things for high speed machine tools. Many researches have been made in the machine tool spindle system, recently interest in composite spindle is gradually increasing. In this paper, the stiffness coefficient matrices of a steel shaft and composite shaft are derived by using Timoshenko beam theory and finite element method. And calculated stiffness coefficient matrices replaced with the equivalent stiffness matrix. And its appropriateness is verified by modal analysis result of ANSYS. And its equations of motion are also derived by using Lagrange's equation. Natural frequency and mode shapes of the composite spindle are analyzed.
