    The purpose of this thesis is to study the effectiveness of the Total Physical Response(TPR) Method and Communicative Language Teaching(CLT) Method in the English Class of the Adults. To achieve this purpose, this study was conducted according to the following: · The subjects chosen for this study were 40 adults in a certain company, Changwon, Kyungnam, in Korea. They were divided into two groups which are consisted of 20 learners each class as the experimental class and the comparative class. · The subjects of each group were given 50 hours to use GTM & ALM Method and TPR & CLT Method from February to July in 2003. · Tests were given for measuring listening, speaking, and reading & writing ability and they were asked to carry out a survey about learner's concerns about learning English, interests and self-confidence of the English class, and the using their English learned from the class for business use. · Listening, Speaking, and Reading & Writing Test were used for data analysis. The results of the study were as follows. 1) TPR & CLT seemed to be more effective in development of English skills for the listening, speaking, reading, and writing than GTM & ALM. 2) TPR & CLT were more likely to enhance learner's concerns about learning English and interests in the English class than GTM & ALM. 3) TPR & CLT seemed to be more effective in the using of learner's English which they learned in the class for their business use than GTM & ALM. 4) Learners in the TPR & CLT class tended to be more interested in and to learn English in more effective way than the class of the GTM & ALM. 5) Learners should be equally improved English four skills which are consisted of Listening, Speaking, Reading, and Writing skills through the teaching method in the class. In conclusion, the thesis suggests that English learning methods should be emphasized on TPR & CLT activities in the classroom for adults.
