This dissertation analyzes the life and spirituality of Pastor Shin Seok-Gu and Ju Gi-Cheol by investigating their sermons and ideas of preaching. The study looks into the depth of their theological message and their spirituality. The study focuses primarily on the contents of the sermons of the two figures. The ultimate purpose of this research is to present their life and spirituality, the content of their sermon, attitude of preaching as the desirable model of the pastoral duties toward the present day ministers. Pastor Shin Seok-Gu and Ju Gi-Cheol lived at the same periods of turbulence in Korean history. They had many things in common, for example, their careers as minister, spiritual leader, preacher, and martyr by costing their lives at the time when the oppression of Imperial Japanese colonial rule was at height. Their pastoral activities were diverse at the time of 1930s, even though Japanese persecution was severe. Pastor Shin Seok-Gu and Ju Gi-Cheol did their best to faithfully fulfill their pastoral duties without allowing themselves a dint of infamy. They always tried to repent of their lives in order to live an impeccable life in glorifying the God. They never risked their Christian faith by visiting Japanese Shin to shrine to worship, and accepted their martyrdom to glorify the God. It was at this period of persecution when they devoted their life to carry out the mission for preaching the words of the God, which could hardly be achieved without the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. It is, therefore, the purpose of this research to illuminate their faithful life to fulfill pastoral duties as well as their spirituality, so that our contemporary ministers could be stimulated to rediscover their faithful life, spirituality, attitude as preachers and the contents of their sermons. What lives did Pastor Shin Seok-Gu and Ju Gi-Cheol live as ministers? What were the features of their spirituality? What attitude did they assume as preachers? What were the contents of their sermons? These may the questions we should cast, since their examples can serve as the models for the contemporary ministers or whoever have committed themselves to pastoral duties. They insisted that the sermon must be based upon on the subjects related to the life and teachings of Jesus Christ. They also treated almost most of the themes of Christian doctrines such as repentance, salvation, faith in love, justification by faith, holiness and pure, the Second Advent of Christ, the Heaven and the Hell, missionary work, spiritual life, love, the Holy Spirit, dedication, the Holy Cross, voluntary service, sacrifice, and Christian responsibility, etc. One of the important lessons learned from their lives and sermons is that preaching must be actualized in the lives of pastors.
