    The safety is essential consideration in motorcycle helmet design. Furthermore, they need lighter and more comfortable helmet. For those expectations, helmet product manufacturers have improved their developing technology and tried to adopt CAD/CAM system but they are still dependent on handicraft. This is why reverse-engineering technology is commonly used in designing motorcycle helmet. Firstly, a designer makes a design mock-up. This mock-up is scanned with 3-dimensional measuring instrument. Then, this is modeled using CAD/CAM system. there are two main difficulties in this technique. Firstly, it's very hard to include designer's intention, that is, styles and feeling. Secondly, it requires fair amount of experiences and skills to make a high quality surface, that is, smooth enough surface. The object of this study is to find out enhanced methodology of scanning and modeling a motorcycle helmet. The suggested method is based on single patch surface, which is different the conventional multi-patch method. The multi-patch method emphasizes the way to control surface shape. However, the single patch method concentrates more on smooth curve generation. Comparing the two methods, single patch method is more efficient and easier. The ultimate goal of this research is that designers can total1y replace handcraft-process with the utilization of CAD/CAM system. This thesis suggests the possibility of this new approach.
