Self-assembled monolayers of thiazolobenzo-crown derivative and its molecular recognition property

The thiazolobenzo-crown ether (TBC) has been known as one of the best ammonium ion selective receptor. We synthesized the thiazolobenzo-crown ether derivative (TBCEA) and conjugated with the thioctic acid (TA). Formation of self-assembled monolayer of TBCEA-TA on gold and molecular recognition of the SAMs for various substrates containing ammonium ion was investigated. The SAMs on gold was characterized by AFM, SPR, QCM and FT-IR RAS. TBCEA-TA SAMs shows strong interaction with proteins such as casein and albumin, but little interaction with organoamines including DOPA, phenethylamine and tryamine. These results will provide a fundamental scheme for the development of protein-chip.
