The curriculum of Korea have changed several times since 1995, and now it is taught with the 7th education curriculum and similarly that of Japan had experienced several revision after 1947 and now on the 7th curriculum. In advance to comparison of middle school curriculum of music, researching on the revisions made in the curriculum of Korea is needed as theoretical background. With this, I tried to compare the education method of Korea and Japan on its process of change and finally the 7th curriculum of both nations. Following results were drawn after research on comparison of 7th education curriculum of Korea and Japan. 1. In terms of organization, it is composed with character, an aim, a contents, a method and an evaluation in Korea, however, it is composed with handling of aim, contents, leading plan drawing up and contents in Japan. It shows clauses of curriculum of Korea is more diverse than that of Japan. 2. In terms of object, it presents general aims and 3 subordinate aims and puts a focus in cultivation of music characteristic, originality and music emotion in Korea. Japan presents a general aim and a grade aim and it gives a focus in the music love core, music sensibility and sentiment cultivation. The aim of Korea has subordinate aims and it gives limit on creativity of students but Japan preserves the freedom of activity by representing the aim in unification. 3. We treat rhythm, tune, harmony, type, dynamic, rapid, and the timbre in understanding and also treat song, composition, appreciation and activity. But Japan is coming to share in expression territory and appreciation territory. It comes to share with song, instrumental music, creation and understanding, to expression territory inside there is referring from the expression teaching material. 4. From instrumental music territory, it treats above 1 traditional instrument throughout 3 years in Japan while Korea has no duty fact. 5. From appreciation territory, both nations let students appreciate the music of the diverse time and cultural area. Japan includes dance or play related to music so that students can taste whole. 6. In terms of teaching and learning method, Korea shows 9 clauses and 4 items while Japan shows 3 clauses and 13 items in which 2 items are concerned in teaching plan and 11 items in contents teaching. For selective classes, no detailed items are shown. 7. In terms of evaluation, Korea presents 7 clauses while it details 4 items on consideration. However, Japan has no instruction on evaluation. It represents that Korea more concentrates on music theory than activity, result than process of it. In addition, the territorially divided evaluation might limit the creativity and imagination of music activity of students. Conclusively, Korea and Japan show differences in all territories but both understand the fundamental of music education is getting a grasp of music of diverse era and culture by activities such as music sensibility and music, song, instrumental music, creation and appreciation. This is based on the similarity of the two nations preparing for 21st century in which intelligence, information, global, and diverse are key words. However, the 7th education of Japan is more focused on synthetic and free activities while Korea specifies evaluation instruction on , , , which might limit creativity of students. Korea and Japan have similar education environment. In other words, craving for high education, leaning upon schools of high reputation, overheated teaching desires, unilaterally delivered way of teaching have been lasting in both nations for long time. As a result, it is getting difficult for students to express their sensibility and imagination and realization of the humanitarian ideal became far story to come true. Now, as it turns into 21st century, Korea and Japan try changes in education through the 7th education curriculum. As both nations make effort to be faithful to the fundamental idea of curriculum, their objects of realization of excellent music teaching will be visualized.
