This thesis presents an integrated network management architecture using distributed object model for broadband Internet subscriber network. As today's communication paradigms change rapidly, service providers face an important period of transition with the challenges of changing business logic and intensified competition. The transition includes upgrading and/or integrating their core legacy mainframe support systems with new generation of OSS components that can organically satisfy new business requirements. In this dissertation, a new hierarchical OSS architecture for the management of broadband Internet service in diverse customer subscriber networks has been proposed. Processes in the OSS hierarchy have been defined that have close relationships with each other to represent the operation for the service management. On the basis of proposed business processes, the integrated network management system for broadband subscriber Internet service network has been designed and implemented, which provide the required network management functions using distributed managed objects. The feature of the proposed architecture is that it enables several types of Internet service networks to be managed with one-stop from the viewpoint of Internet service management. Currently, there exist several types of broadband Internet subscriber networks using xDSL including ADSL and VDSLor DOCSIS. The efficient and concentrated network management of these subscriber networks and resources require the diverse information model of the network to be expressed uniformly and consistently independent of the type of networks and equipments. In order to accomplish these goals, RM-ODP has been used as a basic d architectural framework for the integrated distributed management and TINA-C NRIM has been used as a distributed managed object model of broadband Internet service network. This thesis adopts the object-oriented development methodology guided by RM-ODP and describes the system design diagrams with UML. The distributed management object model and system architecture have been applied to the integrated management of cable data network and VDSL network, which are typical subscriber networks of broadband Internet service. The model and architecture has also been applied to the VoIP service and Internet digital broadcast service network management system. This thesis provides a distributed management object model and system architecture that can be applied for integrated network management of subscriber network with heterogeneous types of configuration and element. A distributed management object model plays an important role as a reference model to manage subscriber network with uniform viewpoint. The proposed system architecture provides more advanced business logic and system configuration capability to support the integrated service management and OSS.
