(A) Meta-analysis of physical activity on self-concept

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of physical activity on self-concept studies conducted in Korea. From the accepted 40 studies, 161 effect sizes were calculated and used for comparison according to variables which have been suggested to have effects on physical activity. First, the mean and Standard Deviation of effect size were calculated to find out difference of self-concept according to physical activity. Second, one-way ANOVA and t-test were come into force to examine difference of effect size of variables. The major findings of the study were as follow : 1. The overall average effect size yielded a value of .96, which suggested that physical activity was effective to improve self-concept compared with no physical activity. 2. Comparison of physical activity type was significant in social self-concept. 3. Comparison of sex in the study was significant in social, emotional, physical self-concept. But Comparison of age in the study was not significant. 4. Comparison of practice session type was significant in family and emotional self-concept. But practice time type was not significant. 5. Comparison of control characteristics in the study was significant in general, social, emotional and physical self-concept.
