This thesis investigates the degree of job satisfaction of the clinical nurse specialist, which is a kind of nursing system conducted mainly in the third group medical institutions. It aims to promote quality and efficiency of nursing service offered by clinical nurse specialists. 70 clinical nurse specialists and 78 general nurses, who works one of four national university hospitals in Daegu or P hospital(a second group medical institution in Daegu), participated in the investigation. The degree of job satisfaction was measured by a measuring tool, which is originally developed by Paula(1978) and revised by Bae(2001), composed by 24 problems in 7 categories. In the measuring tool, Likert's 5 points barometer is adopted which is characterized by 5 point, which says 'so do I very much', and 1 point, which says 'never do I'. We utilized SPSS, a famous statistics software package, to analyze collected questionnaire papers and finally generated statistically results such as frequency, percentage, t-test and ANOVA. We summarized our investigation as following. 1) The average degree of job satisfaction of clinical nurse specialist scored 3.26. The highest degree of categorized job satisfaction was observed in the category of expert status, which scored 3.74. The highest degree of job satisfaction was 4.39, answered by the question "The nursing service I am offering is the most important one". 2) Among all the generations, who aged over 45 showed statistically significant increase in the degree of job satisfactions. The intention of occupation change score 3.31, which implies statistically significant "no intention". 3) Average degree of job satisfaction of clinical nurse specialist scored 3.26, which is statistically higher than 2.86, which is the average degree of job satisfaction of general nurses. In the salary category, general nurse scored 2.85 and clinical nurse specialist 2.74, which says that there are no statistically significant difference in the salary. In all the categories except salary, clinical nurse specialists group scored higher, which is statistically significant, than general nurses group. Based on the above observation, I suggest that clinical nurse specialists enhance job satisfaction to promote the quality of nursing service and to accomplish the fundamental goal of nursing organization.
