    Education on Korean painting has played an important role in having students establish cultural independence and understand what's Korean beauty. However, today we not only have been more acquainted with Western art, but also are relatively low in interest in ours and in understanding them, which may be caused by the mixed results of some reasons, that is, our culture-liquidation policy by Japan imperialism, a rapid spreading of Western art after 「the Liberation」, and its non-critical acceptance, etc. Therefore, to find out what's the problems coming out in the field of education, this study, as its purpose, would like to readjust a theoretical background of Korean painting through curriculum according to the necessity of research, and then to present some problems and propose reform measures at the same time on the basis of the actual state investigation of Korean painting guidance. As shown in the analysis results through a questionnaire survey, the researcher could grasp some problems in the guidance of Korean painting in middle school fine art education, thereupon would like to suggest some reform measures against the problems of Korean painting education on the basis of the results of questionnaire analysis as follows; First, concerning poor learning circumstance for Korean painting education, it is needed to refer to the teaching tools & equipment standard guidances so that school authority could arrange for materials & teaching aids for Korean painting guidance from a mere sense of duty. Second, concrete objective and guidance contents for Korean painting in fine art textbook should be proposed. That is, all domains in curriculum should be dealt impartially not giving too much importance to any part, and in addition, it is demanded to express the contents about Korean painting education more specifically and easily to learn to which a careful attention has not been paid, under the today's realities in which traditional art being emphasized in curriculum. Third, concerning the guidance methods of Korean painting having many problems, it is required to have actively participated in practical training course for Korean painting lessons by teachers for improvement of practical guidance capability. Fourth, it is demanded for teachers to be given chances to express their opinion after appreciating a work of art. That should be the system like this which students themselves appreciate their works of art and express their opinion, appraise what's the one worthy of praise each other, and occasionally criticize what's the one worthy of it so that they could also improve their ability of expression, not unilateral appreciation guidance by teachers while showing textbook or a reference work only. Finally, for effective guidance for Korean painting education, not only teachers' effort but also students' interest should be put together. Teachers should induce students' interest while giving up a way of thinking that they have to bring up professional painters, students should have a will to establish the independence of our art culture through correct understanding of our traditional culture. As shown above, if active participation and inducement of teachers and students have been made with the reform of a given circumstance for Koran painting education, the normalization of Korean painting guidance could be made. Understanding of Korean painting is finally giving the value of our tradition. Therefore, for more improved future of Korean painting, we would have to spare no our creative effort while preserving our tradition.
