The purpose of this thesis is to investigate what life had Matthew church community faced and to examine the theological message from the writer of the Gospel by studying the metaphor of heaven that appears in Matthew chapter 13. A thesis submitted to committee of the Graduate School of Hoseo University in partial fulfillment for the degree of Master Theology in July, 2003 Thus, the exact understanding of metaphor acts as a proposition for the metaphor investigation. Yet, a suitable meaning of the metaphor is not still settled. The range of this thesis is to understand the metaphor of Matthew chapter 13 in the relationship of heaven. Not only Matthew chapter 13 has a critical position in the entire Matthew, but also is full of metaphors of heaven and is the main chapter. In Matthew, there are 19 metaphors that arecertainly a metaphor, and 8 of them are in chapter 13. Foremost, I will deal with the purpose and motivation of this investigation, and the latest investigation trend in chapter 1. In investigation trend part, the analysis of the first church god fathers and the history of analysis in the latest thesis will be studied. In chapter 2, to understand the summary of The Kingdom of God, the classification of the names"The Kingdom of God" and "The Kingdom of Heaven" will be dealt as a problem of vocabulary. In addition, after looking at understandings of documents of Old Testment era and the understandings of The Kingdom of God while Jesus existed, I will investigate each understandings about The Kingdom of God of other scholars. And also, to understand the basic metaphor, the definition of metaphor will be examined through the Old and New Testament. Plus, I will find out why Jesus has said by using a metaphor. In chapter 3, which is the body part, the meaning of metaphor in Matthew chapter 13 and what relationship does that has with The Kingdom of God will be investigated through the comments in Matthew. In fact, The Kingdom of God was the main theme of Jesus' public life. In reality, this is certainly written by the writers of the Gospel. (Matthew 4:23; 9:35 Luke 8:1; 9:11) The main theme of themetaph of by Jesus is The Kingdom of God and before Jesus being caught, the final appreciation to disciples was also about The Kingdom of God. Looking at some articles about the positions of conceptions of rabbi or in revelation literature, it is certain that the concept, "The Kingdom of God" was a very common idea to Jesus' contemporary people. In chapter 13, the metaphors that say, "Same as... The Kingdom of Heaven" will be dealt. In chapter 4, I tried to focus on the life of Matthew that has been mentioned in the metaphor of The Kingdom of God and the situation they are in through the theological message. Finally, in chapter 5,as a conclusion chapter, the contents that has been mentioned in the body will be summarized and explained to grasp the main point of contents.
