    Apartments have been accepted as a major building type for housing in Korea since the Mapo Apartment Complex was constructed in 1964, and the super high-rise apartments are rapidly growing these days. The purpose of this research is to study the architectural characteristics of the unit plan in the super high-rise apartments in Korea and utilize the results as the basic planning resources for the future design of the super high-rise apartments. As a case study, this study selected 20 super high-rise apartment complex that have been planned or constructed since 1999 in the capitol area, and analyzed 144 unit plan types to examine the architectural characteristics such planning elements as block plan type, entry access, unit plan type, area distribution and spatial composition. The results of this research are as following. 1) Y-shape block plan is the best as 4 cases(20.0%) while 9 types of block plan are appeared. 2) Center Core Type is 70% while Hall Type is 30% in the core design. 3) Right-Angled Opening(36.1%) and Both-Ends Opening(27.0%) are predominant in the opening type of unit plan. 4) Living Space on southern exposure is in order of Living Room(81.2%), Bed Room(81.2%), Couple Bed Room(67.3%), Kitchen(24.3%), Dining Room(9.7%), Bath Room(6.9%). 5) Center Located Type living room is 55.5% while One-Sided Type is 29.1% and Center Located in Corner Type is 15.2%. 6) Connection Type of inner living space is in order of Corridor Type(34.0%), Small Corridor+Compartment Type(30.5%), Large Corridor+Compartment Type(25.0%), Compartment Type(10.4%). 7) L+DK is the best shown as 70 cases(48.6%) and the second shown is LD+K(34 cases, 23.6%) in Spatial Composition of LDK(living, dining and kitchen) among 144 types of unit plan.
