As we all know, Puccini is a most representative composer who developed Italian opera between the late 19th century and the early 20th century. While G. Verdi laid the most successful period of Italian opera between the middle 19th century and the late 19th century, Puccini, in succession of him, seemed to succeed and progress the orthodox Italian opera. Now according to the end of this dissertation we will summarize the conclusion briefly in the falling. First, musical character of Puccini opera is that they deal with rich humaneness everyone can sympathize with as material. And his music use beautiful and attractive melody based on the custom and pattern of Italian opera. His songs are full of emotion, his description of characters is with indescribable haunting charm, and orchestra raised effect with new approach. As he was very serious in choosing the scripts so that he had conflicts with librettists often, he dealt with them wisely and got success by devoting his heart and soul to his works in order to bring his works to perfection. Influenced particularly by Verismo, the literature trend of that period, he reflected it in orchestra by choosing ordinary people for main characters from noble people which was common for long time. Also his maximizing the dramatic effect got the fruits of approaching to the general public more closely by describing the lyrical world. His music uses the element of Wagner in orchestral music, that is using 'Leit Motif' in compliance with the character of the cast, he gave the help in understanding the progress of the story. His arias are full of emotion and his description of characters in the drama is almost to the degree of perfection. Also 〈La Boheme〉 is Puccini's representative Verismo opera, which describes joys and sorrows and love of a petty bourgeois based upon Verismo with affluent lyric. In specific, since 〈La Boheme〉 is based on his experience of boarding poorly as he studied composition in Milano conservatoire, the musical expression of characters in the drama is more practically described. Also Puccini used property 'Dramatic Pause'. In concerning with dramatic effect, Puccini has remarkable talents exceeding keen sense. And one can say that it is acknowledged nowadays more than 1924 of his death. He is a composer who expressed his skill to the most for each work, who made steady progress one cannot find any other instances from the unpolished 〈Le Billy〉 to the dazzling splendid 〈Turandot〉. Also he knows how to penetrate his complicated music into public cognizance, and he is a composer who completed it. Its most representative example is 〈La Boheme〉. 〈La Boheme〉 expressed characters, movement, conflicts, and resolution of the main characters very clearly by use of composer Puccini's repeating splendid melody and rhythm. In the matter of melody, it shows the straightforward moving melody of without decorating and hesitating. Concerning with the form, it is not bounded with the pattern of form, and it tries to manifest sufficiently the content of the drama and emotion which endow the main characters with free form. In the matter of melody of 〈La Boheme〉, Puccini adds a dramatic melody to a degree, and, at the same time, by describing many scenes with affluent melody of his characteristic, beautiful, and lyric which cannot be followed by other composers, he made the mind of audiences warm. Like this Puccini, absorbing features of Verismo in his opera La Boheme well, added his own musical inclination and expressed a characteristic and outstanding music. Therefore, despite the fact that 〈La Boheme〉 had popular subject matter, in which pure and poor woman main characters appeared, and had beautiful lyric character and beauty of melody, and was full of dramatic effect in common, today we have to illuminate 〈La Boheme〉 again from the point that Puccini's wonderful spirit of criticism was laid in it, which sublimated such subject matters as farewell, reunion, and death of ordinary lovers to the element of accusing the contradictory and antinomic social tendency the society.
