This study investigated the effects of reflective and ruminative response style on depressive mood. Especially, the moderators and mediators of response style and depression we explained. 353 college students completed Korea Depression Scale(KDS), Responses to Depression Questionnaire (RDQ), Rumination-Reflection Questionnaire (RRQ), Problem Solving Inventory (PSI), Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale(RSE) and Social Support Scale. Results showed that stress predicted rumination and reflection. That is, the stress was correlated with rumination and reflection. And mediating effects of self-esteem was found between rumination and negative thinking toward the future(kds1) and negative thinking toward the Self(kds2). And social support of family mediated reflection to effect somatization among depressive symptoms. And social support of family moderated ruminative and reflective response to influence negative thinking toward the future(kds1), negative thinking toward the Self(kds2). social support of friend was moderator between rumination and worry and agitation (kds3). The moderating effect of social support of family means that strength of the relationship between response style and depression symptom differs with the level of social support of family. These results suggest that ruminative and reflective response style are moderated or mediated to affect depressive symptom by other psychological variable.
