This study is a correlation research which is tried to provide the basic materials to develop nursing intervention for strengthening the recognition about positive childbirth experience of a woman in childbed by grasping the effect of the childbirth knowledge, labor agentry, labor pain on the postpartum mothers's perception of delivery experience. The duration for collecting materials was from December 5th, 2003 to February 27th, 2004. The subjects of 50 primiparea and 50 multiparea in G university hospital and J general hospital located in J city. The collected data was analyzed by means of descriptive statistics, T-test, ANOVA, Pearson's Correalation Coefficient, and Stepwise Multiple Regression using SPSS PC-Program(Ver. 10.0). The tools used in this study are 20 questions which corrected and supplemented the measurement tools of the childbirth knowledge developed by Choi, Yeon-Sun in 1983, 26 questions which corrected and supplemented the measurement tools of labor agentry, developed by Hodnett and Simmons-Tropena in 1987 and adapted by Kim, Sun-Ae in 1996, 10cm VAS as a measurement tool of labor pain, and 20 questions which corrected and supplemented the measurement tools of the perception of delivery experience developed by Mart & Mercer in 1979 and adapted by Jo, Mi-Yeong in 1988. The results of this study are as follows: 1. The degree of the subject's the childbirth knowledge was 17.41(Range 0-20) and the average response on the right answer was 88.3%. The degree of the subject's labor agentry was 3.34.(Range 1-5). The degree of the subject's labor pain was 2.82(Range 0-10) on the pain in latent period, 7.89 on the pain in active period, and 9.15 on the pain in transitional period. The degree of the subject's perception of delivery experience was 3.16. 2. The correlation between the childbirth knowledge, labor agentry, labor pain and perception of delivery experience. 1) The childbirth knowledge has a significant correlation with labor agentry(r=0.206, p=0.040), with the labor pain in the active period(r=0.201, p=0.023) and with the perception of delivery experience (r=0.201, p=0.045). 2) The labor agentry has a significant correlation with the labor pain in the active period(r=-0.207, p=0.036) and with the perception of delivery experience(r=0.652, p=0.000). 3) The labor pain and the perception of delivery experience had a negative correlation with the pain intransitional period(-0.219. p=0.028). 3. The childbirth knowledge, labor agentry, labor pain and perception of delivery experience by the subject's characteristics. 1) There was a statistically significant difference between the childbirth knowledge according to the characteristics of subjects of study and the degree of marital satisfaction (F=6.09, p=0.001) and the times of prenatal diagnosis (F=19.369, p=0.000). The childbirth knowledge was appeared high, when the degree of marital satisfaction was 'very satisfied' and the times of prenatal diagnosis was over 11 times. 2) There was a statistically significant difference between labor agentry according to the characteristics of subjects of study and age(F=2.846, p=0.042), matrimonial state(t=4.312, p=0.040), the degree of marital satisfaction(F=7.55, p=0.000). labor agentry was high, when the age was from 26 to 30, the subject was married, the degree of marital satisfaction was high. 3) There was a statistically significant difference between labor pain according to the characteristics of subjects of study and a school career(F=3.85, p=0.025). A woman who graduated a high school had the lowest Labor pain. 4) There was a statistically significant difference between perception of delivery experience according to the characteristics of subjects of study and the degree of marital satisfaction (F=6.60, p=0.000), the times of prenatal diagnosis (F=3.472, p= 0.019), participating in the childbirth education (t=6.869. p=0.010). The perception of delivery experience appeared positive, when the degree of marital satisfaction was high, the times of prenatal diagnosis was 6-10 times, subjects had the childbirth education. 4. Analysis on the factors having an effect on the Perception of Delivery Experience. The predictable factors having an effect on the perception of delivery experience were labor agentry(F=72.627,p=0.000) as 42.6% and the education before pregnancy (F=42.502,p=0.000) as 3.8%, which were appeared as explain 46.4% of the perception of delivery experience. In conclusion, in the correlation between the childbirth knowledge, labor agentry, labor pain and perception of delivery experience, it is indicated that as the childbirth knowledge is high, labor agentry is high, as labor agentry is high, labor pain in the active period appears low, and as the childbirth knowledge is high, labor agentry is high, and the labor pain in transitional period is low, the perception of delivery experience is positive. Especially, labor agentry and the childbirth education were appeared as major predictable factors of the perception of delivery experience. Therefore, we should increase the childbirth knowledge and labor agentry through the childbirth education as a nursing intervention for the more positive perception of delivery experience and clarify the other factors which are composing of labor agentry.
