(A) Study on the will of self-reliance of the handicapped women

This study aims to find out the influenced factors (personal, family and social factors) which are related to the will of self-reliance of the women with disabilities in order to provide effective intervention strategies. This study is conducted by the survey on 104 handicapped females. Personal factors include quality of life, sex role attitude, independent living skills and the health condition, family factors include the number of the family, the economic level and social factors include the social support, the perceived social stigma. The results of this study are as follows; 1) As a results of using multiple-regression analysis, personal factors affect significantly on the will of self-reliance by 36.7% explanatory power. The most powerful personal factors on the will of self-reliance are sex role attitude and quality of life. The higher quality of life is and the less the traditional sex role attitude is, the higher the will of self-reliance is. 2) Family factors affect significantly on the will of self-reliance by 13.0% explanatory power. The fewer family number is and the higher economic level is, the higher the will of self-reliance is. 3) Social factors affect significantly on the will of self-reliance by 26.3% explanatory power. The most powerful social factor on the will of self-reliance is social support. 4) Of all variables, social support, sex role attitude, health conditions and economic level affect significantly on the will of self-reliance. In the view of the results so far achieved, this study recommends the program focused on social support, and job training: Social workers especially, to reinforce the will self-reliance, should help the clients recognize their unique qualities and strengths, rather than being constrained by traditional sex roles.
