Fuzzy information retrieval model of Bandler and Kohout has some strong aspects such as automatic constructing of thesaurus, assigning priorities in fuzzy values to the retrieved results, and analogical retrieving of some unrelated items. Especially, the fuzzy relational request in the information retrieval model represents some environmetal information of human's intuition into fuzzy relation, and analyzes the degree of containment among the items and then extracts an item which has the highest priority. This thesis suggests a collision avoidance technique for IMB(Intelligent Migratory Buoy) which makes use of the fuzzy relational request in order to increase the survival rate and to decrease the operating cost of the buoy. The technique simplifies the environmental information by projecting the information on a grid space, and by evaluating the value of each grid in view of the factors: regressiveness and cogregation. This technique is modeled for the buoy to be operated in situation with multiple obstacles as well as sinlge obstacle. The technique makes decision in a similar way as human experts by adopting the fuzzy relational products in the information retrieval technique.
