Background : Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL), mycosis fungoides(MF), is malignant proliferation of T-helper memory lymphocyte. Only minority of cases are other phenotypes such as CD3+, CD4-, CD8+ or CD3+, CD8+, Primary cutaneous CD8+ epidermotropic cytotoxic T-cell lymphoma is known to represent aggressive course. Objective : The purpose of this study is to describe the clinical and histopathological characteristics of CD8+ CTCLs and to define whether the presence of CD8+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes(TIL) has an impact on prognosis of disease. Materials & methods : To characterize CD8+ CTCLs, we analyzed 10 patients with CD8+ mycosis fungoides. A retrospective analysis was done by chart review, clinical follow-up, skin biopsy specimen review, clinical, histopathological and patient's prognostic features. Results : CD8+ TIL was found in upper dermis alone(90%) or in upper dermis with folliculotropism(10%). Three patients had more strongly stained lesion with CD8 TIL than CD4 TIL and 2 patients with CD4 than CD8, and the rest showed equally stained lesion. There were no significant difference among location of CD8 TIL, density of staining, ratio between CD4 TIL and CD8 TIL and disease prognosis. Conclusion : On long-term follow-up, these results here showed that patients with CD8+ cutaneous T-cell lymphomas enjoyed good prognosis.
