The education of history can be an educational activity that teaches knowledges about human's past. On the base of this, we can increase our historical thinking abilities and get the historical awareness. But our Korean history texts mainly consist of political histories, and the contents of historical educations that are apt to be superficial. Therefore the author propose one particular teaching method. That method used by many middle school teachers focuses on teaching knowledges as well as developing historical thinking abilities and awareness. Firstly, in chapter 1 <The Objective of the Study>, in the second paragraph, the author explains the meaning of local history and the importance of that education. In the third paragraph, the author considers the trend of this study at middle schools, introduccs the scholars' teaching methods for local history learnings, and points to the problems that occurred. Some methods for the learning of local history are Diversion Approach, Theme Approach, Synthetic Approach. Some scholars insist that the most desirable one is the Theme Approach, though it requires too much time. In chapter 2 <The Situation of Historical Education in Gwang-yang and The Assessing of Education of Local History>, in the first paragraph, the author explains the 7th Educational Curriculum and the characteristics of Social Studies. In the second paragraph, the author explains the situation of local history in Gwang-yang through the paper questionnaire. In the third paragraph, the author explains <The Education of Local History in the Extra Activity Class> as a method for local history teaching in the 7th Educational Curriculum. In addition, there are four classes' extra activity classes in the 7th Educational Curriculum. It is proper that the teachers use a class's creative extra activity class among them. If we teach the local history in the creative extra activity class, the shortage of time will not be a problem. Also, it will be more effective than many other methods. However, the problems that teachers have are much work, preparing for teaching methods for local history and making some teaching plans by themselves. And so, it can not be done without teachers' efforts. In Chapter 3 <The Practicing of the Education of Local History in Gwang-yang>, the author examples teaching models for the education of local history. In the first paragraph, the author shows cooperative-group learning as a desirable method. In the second paragraph, the author explains the lesson of local history with the presentation of groups. Most of teachers are using that method which is known widely among other cooperative-group learning methods. In the third paragraph, the author shows the activities for visiting remains. In the fourth paragraph, the author explains the activities for making reports. Lastly, I hope the education of local history will be more active.
